Facebook Groups to get new clients

If you ask me what my #1 referral source is for traffic and sales, hands down it’s going to be Facebook Groups. I started using Facebook Groups for business in 2017, and I was in a bunch a groups I could count on one hand, spending hours talking about the biz and #allthingsdesign with other creatives.

It’s now 2019 and I’m in over 40 groups (2020 update: Make that 50!) that provides a healthy flow of traffic to my blog and website. Oh, I could join more (there’s literally thousands of them) but I believe in engagement over numbers.

As an entrepreneur, you could say that one of your top priorities in joining a Facebook Group is to generate traffic to your website and score some leads. Yet, that shouldn’t be your only reason to join groups. One of my fave things about groups is the support, knowledge and advice from other members.

Facebook Group Etiquette

Before you go nuts spam and your content, take a moment to get a feel of the group. The last thing you want is to receive a negative impression of your brand.

Read the Rules

In almost any Facebook Group, you’ll find rules and guidelines that enforces the group’s authenticity, eliminates spam, and maintains a high engagement rate. Be sure to take the rules in before joining so you know if it’s the right community for you.

Start Discussions

Don’t be a lurker! The best way for people in groups to remember your name is to start discussions, and actively engage in other threads with authentic comments. Again, think quality over quantity when posting and commenting and people will recognise you as an expert in your field, and even tag you in topics you have valuable knowledge in.

Post Like a Pro

Your thoughts, tips and opinions are going to be seen by a large number of other businesses, so engage, encourage and inspire! Use perfect grammar (the Grammarly Chrome extension is invaluable), be considerate and illustrate your brand values.

Be Discoverable

One of the lessons I learnt early on, is just because you’re posting from a personal profile, doesn’t mean you can’t expose your niche, services, website and Facebook page. People curious about you will take a look at your Facebook page to learn more about you.

Take this opportunity to list your work information and use featured images (I use my latest portfolio images) on your profile. As long as you don’t use your personal profile exclusively for your business, you won’t land in Facebook jail.

10 Facebook Groups for landing new clients

The VA Savvies community was the very first Facebook Group I joined when groups made a splash on Facebook, so of course this is easily a chart topper. While hot leads shouldn't be your main priority when joining a group, this community is full of them. Don't worry if you're not a VA, this is still THE group to join if you're web designer, graphic designer, or any other creative entrepreneur.

Boss Project
Formerly The Creative Collective, the Boss Project is a Facebook group of creatives. They include web designers, photographers, VAs, brand consultants, graphic designers and copywriters. Every day I spot valuable leads for Instagram Experts, Pinterest Managers and a ton of other freelance creatives!

Freelance Heroes
This one’s for the UK freelancers looking for a community of other freelancers in London, Manchester, and pretty much every other city in the UK. They come together in the real world for a conference in Birmingham, packed with inspiring talks and networking events. I’ve found myself some quality design gigs through the group, so it’s worth a look! Follow them on Twitter too at @FHChat.

Badass Business Babes
Full of business babes all around the world and across a large number of industries (design, blogging, fashion, marketing.. the list is immense), this group is fab for talking shop, asking questions, sharing wins, and you guessed it, grabbing a gig! There are so many opportunities for web designers, copywriters, social media managers, Pinterest consultants, VAs and other business babes to work with other leading ladies in business.

Run by Kayla of Ivory Mix (subscription-based feminine photography I'm head over heels for). Connect & Cultivate has a ton of opportunities on themed days to share your blog post, tweets, Instagram posts and promote your paid offers. When it comes to theme days, this group is the one to be in!

Marketing Solved
Another group I’m nuts for is Marketing Solved. Like Connect & Cultivate, this group has daily posts for promoting your biz and collaborating with other members. You’ll also want to stick around for Kat Sullivan’s Facebook lives, Q&As and useful digital marketing tips.

Women Helping Women Entrepreneurs
Designed to share and inspire each other, this group is for the lady bosses of the world! A large number of members are in the pre-launch stage of their business and looking for designers, copywriters, coaches, Pinterest managers, VAs and a bunch of other VSPs to help them launch their biz, design their websites and help manage their communities.

Freelancing Females
If you’re like me (Female, check. Freelancer, check.) you’ll want to get in on this. Recently celebrating their 100k milestone, this group is packed with thousands of other female freelancers in the VA, design, marketing and photography industry. Down to the different types of freelancers hanging out in the group, there’s an opportunity for everyone. From Facebook Ad Experts to Graphic Designers, Web Designers and Copywriters. Check them out on Instagram too! This is hands down, one of my fave Freelance groups to be in.

Amazing Women Entrepreneurs
As I compile this list, I can already see more than a few fantastic opportunities posted in the Amazing Women Entrepreneurs group, and the day’s not over yet. I love the support and community present in this group, and it’s not short of amazing opportunities!

Online Business Building Mamas
A group for the mama entrepreneurs, this community certainly isn’t shy of promotional opportunities! Throughout the week the admins post a self-promo thread for sharing your lead magnets, paid offers, Instagram, and blog posts.
